A LOOK INTO UNM FOOD OPTIONS

Starbucks at Zimmerman Library:

In a world full of book lies a tiny area of caffeinated delight. Late nights and early mornings start here. Caffeine is a college students best friend. As I look around I see small green mermaids printed on cups of the people who surround the library. Each person enjoying drinks but living different stories. I see some students studying independently, earbuds placed I each ear as a do not disturb signs. Others are working in groups, maybe eating pastries from the Starbucks venue, some drinking beverages as pink as strawberries or as green as limes. As they chat away (probably about nothing to do with their project due) they come together in Zimmerman to act as if they’re getting work done because something about being in a library makes you feel that way. In some ways I feel as if drinking coffee makes you feel more productive. For some reason that caffeine rushing through your vanes feel like a rush of productiveness entering your bloodstream.

Co-op:

As I entered the Co-op by the Bookstore I saw such bright and welcoming colors. Heathy foods surrounded me as I suddenly lost 10 pounds just looking at it. The shop was empty; it was about mid-day. People might just be in class or maybe the prices had driven the consumers away. The small market was accompanied by a smiling sales woman who reminded me of the sun with her golden hair and bright smile. She was a sweet mid aged lady who dressed as if she was free from care. As I walked around I saw snacks that I have never before seen. I was intrigued by the new discoveries. Walking around I looked as if I was a child inside of the candy store, wanting to bring everything home with me but knowing I couldn’t. I chose a small granola bar. Something new that I hadn’t tried before. My taste buds were watering and my body was happy I was finally going to put something heathy in it other than the junk I had eaten hours prior.

Heath Box:

A small green box lies lonely next to the science and math buildings like a single flower blooming amongst an open desert. I have seen this small café many times while walking to my math classes. It never seems to be busy. I always told myself that I would stop and try something one day, I never got around to it.  As I glanced at the menu everything on it sounded very organic. I loved the idea of this small café, but it made me sad to see how it didn’t get very much love. Maybe the students of UNM were not very aware or its presence. As I sat and observed the area for about 15 minutes I saw a swarm of students leaving a building like a flock of wild birds rushing to their next destination. Not a single one stopped or even gave the small café a second look.
